Smart Evac: An integrated electronic system aimed at tracking and detecting people in emergency building evacuation cases

The project’s object is the development of an integrated passive-active safety system (in software form, and with hardware implementation capabilities) in order to provide early warning and effectively guide the crowd to safe places and/or exits, in the event of an emergency evacuation of interior spaces following a fire in an area vital to the crowd.

It is, in its essence, a monitoring system for progress assessment and early warning. The proposed system will be the basis for developing an integrated system, capable of automated management and decision-making, for a variety of buildings with a large number of residents and guests with specific characteristics, such as schools, hospitals, universities, nursing homes, malls, entertainment venues, and generally facilities and large halls that seasonally host a large number of people in their premises and require studying, supplying, installing, and operating a sufficient number of suitable electronic material. Mainly sensors and related electronic devices.

The implementing bodies of the project are:

  • Zarifopoulos S.A.
  • Democritus University of Thrace
  • Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace

This project is co-funded by the European Union and national funds.
